Town lose out in County Cup Final
Huddersfield Town Women’s 2024/2025 season ends in defeat as they lose out to Sheffield United U21’s in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup Final.
It was a bad day at the office for Huddersfield, as an early goal stunned the Terriers, before four second-half goals secured the trophy for Sheffield United.
It would not be an ideal start for Glen Preston’s side, as it would be the young Blades who opened the scoring. With less than ten minutes on the clock, winger Grace Foy was not dealt with by the Town defence and carried down the right flank, before cutting across field before getting the shot away.
The next twenty minutes would become a real arm wrestle, with both sides having few chances. Jostling for possession and territory, the ball spent most of the time in the middle of the pitch as the teams looked to capitalise.
The best chance of a goal in the first half came from Sheffield United. Foy again was causing havoc with the Town defenders. After finding space in the box, she looked certain to score but dragged the shot wide.
Town did manage to get an opportunity before the half time whistle blew. Katie Astle managed to find Rebecca Beresford in space, but good Blades defence limited her options, and the shot went straight to the keeper.

Whilst it was a better start to the second half than it was the first, it would mean very little as Sheffield United came out firing after the break.
Two quick fire goals either side of the hour mark saw the lead increase from one to three, leaving Town stunned.
First, Foy added her second of the evening pouncing on a Town error as they tried to play out of the back. That was before Amber Sewell scored directly from a corner.
The Blades sealed the victory through Isla Phillips. After breaking through and beating Bolton-Woollam, the youngster slotted home for a fourth.
Sheffield’s fifth and final goal of the evening came from Brogan Hughes. After being on the field for mere moments, she scored with her first touch of the ball from the left side of the box.
The defeat brings the curtain down on another season for Glenn Preston’s side, as they now head into the off-season.
