Match Preview | Burnley (a)

Burnley vs Huddersfield Town

By Glenys Furness

Huddersfield Town Women travel to Burnley this weekend. Another must win match for the Terrier Women, who sit second from bottom of the league. Some very good performances by Huddersfield Town Women, have seen some very close matches of late.

Unfortunately, the Terrier Women have only won two matches this season so far, despite pushing some games hard. Burnley sit second in the league and are four wins behind Newcastle who are top of the league.

In the return fixture at home the Terrier Women were outclassed by the opposition, as Burnley put five goals beyond Huddersfield Town Women. The women terriers did score one goal in that match and really need to find their scoring boots.

The matches are running out for Town Women to salvage something from the league this season. Unfortunately, it is looking more and more likely that Huddersfield Town Women will be relegated at the end of the season. The Women Terriers do have a cup final to look forward to though, as they
are in the final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup. The Town women are the current holders of the cup and could end the season with a trophy even if relegated.

No matter what, the Terrier Women have made improvements lately, even if they have not managed to win or even draw their games. It is unlikely that this will enable them to stay up this season, but will be a base to build on next season.

Burnley have won 4 of their last 5 matches, which leaves them in second place in the league. They have 2 games in hand on leaders Newcastle. Burnley will be inspired to try and get another win, gain more points and gain on the top place.

This match will not be easy for the Terrier Women an impressive performance and some goals will give the squad confidence for the final stages of the season.
