
Town eventually ran out convincing winners in their night game at the Stafflex.
Glen Preston rung the changes to give a number of players some minutes in the FA Women’s National League Cup Determining Round. He also had one eye on Sundays home game vs Norton and Stockton Ancients and hoped to continue their winning start to the league season.
Both teams started the game with attack in mind and the game was evenly balanced.
Doncaster Belles took the lead from a corner in the 16th minute when a powerful header found the top corner of Towns net, 0-1.
The lead didn’t last too long and Town equalised in the 22nd minute when a Charlotte Stuart cross was unfortunately headed home by a Belles player 1-1.
Town took the lead in the 36th minute after the Belles keeper spilled the ball and Rebecca Beresford was on hand to open her account for the season, 2-1.
Half time 2-1
Town were dominant in the second half and that dominance was summed up in the 64th minute when Mallin laid the ball off to Leah Embley who thundered a shot in from 25 yards to make it 3-1.
Late substitutes Ellie Lambert and Ashley Tiripke combined well in the 89’ minute resulting in a neat finish from Lambert to end the night 4 – 1.
It finished Town Women 4 Doncaster Rovers Belles 1 after an entertaining game at the Stafflex with Town progressing into the first round of the FA Women’s National league cup.
