The Terriers looked destined for their first defeat of the season, before a late McMahon brace stole a point at the Stafflex Arena.
Town started aggressively from kick-off, earning the first few chances of the game, including a headed opportunity following Leah Embley’s cross that Ella Duffield couldn’t dispatch.
In the 16th minute Beth Ibbotson tried to take matters into her own hands, where a lack of opposition pressure meant she tried her luck from 25 yards, unfortunately to no avail.
The girls had a flurry of chances in the minutes following, which saw important blocks from the opposition defence and Yasmin Mason hitting the side netting with a volley.
The away side had an opportunity to put themselves ahead in the 31st minute, but the linesmen deemed their attacker offside.
Just a couple of minutes later they had another big chance as their number 10 was left alone in the box, but her header went over the bar.
The last chance of the half fell to Kate Mallin from a cross by Caz Simone, as her back-to-goal effort towards the bottom right corner was saved, meaning the sides went into the break goalless.
The second half started fairly slow compared to the first, with Town having to work until the 56th minute to have their first glance at goal, though Charlotte Stuart was unable to keep the effort down.
Ibbotson gave it a second go in the 64th minute, this time a left footed effort from 20 yards that didn’t challenge the Norton keeper.
Norton took the lead in the 72nd minute, which was tapped home following a clever cut across from number 12 to number 10. 0-1.
The away side doubled their lead two minutes later through an impressive long-range effort by number 10, hitting the crossbar before going in and confirming her second goal of the afternoon. 0-2.
The Terriers refused to back down though, where some great link up play between McMahon and Simone in the 82nd minute saw the substitute on the end of a cut-back and able to comfortably half the deficit. 1-2.
Just three minutes later in the 85th, Rebecca Beresford’s cross was rebounded by a Norton defender and found its way to McMahon, who levelled the scoring from the back post. 2-2.
Town nearly completed a comeback win in the 99th minute but were only just unable to steal the three points at the death following an exciting end to the match.
The Terriers travel to Chorley for their next fixture in the league on Sunday 8th September.
