Huddersfield score nine to progress in County Cup
A goal fest at the Stafflex made sure that Huddersfield Town Women are in the next round of the County Cup.
An Ashley Tiripke haul of goals was the standout of a classy 9-0 victory.
First Half
It was a bitterly cold day that needed some good football to warm up the appetite. In the early stages Huddersfield were the ones applying the pressure, forcing an early free kick from a Handsworth goal kick.
The wings were where Town found joy. The first real chance came curtsy of Caz Simone’s ball in behind to Molly Firth which could only find the legs of the keeper. Minutes later a similar chance had a similar outcome for Firth.
A short well worked corner was able to be flicked on by McMahon and was tapped in by Tiripke in the 16th minute. Straight from kick off, Town pounced on a mix-up between Handsworth’s centre half and goalkeeper with Tiripke heading in her second in no time, with the score 2-0 before 20 minutes had gone.
More pressure was provided from Town, with another corner nearly put in the Handsworth net by one of their own players. The resulting corner saw Handsworth just about scramble off the line.
An injury for Caz Simone forced an early change with Ella Duffield being the replacement in the 31st minute.
The odd foray into the terrier’s half was all Handsworth were allowed, thanks to some good defending by the hosts backline. A good break from Handsworth was delt with by Ibbotson, with the resulting corner leading to nothing.
With a slight lull in front of goal for the Terriers the 37th minute started the action up again. Town had come close for the first time in a while with a mazing run from Firth that when delivered into the middle couldn’t be finished by Stuart.
Two minutes later Tiripke had her first-half perfect hattrick completed with a rebound tap in after a scramble in the box. It was becoming a case of how many.

Second Half
Captain Beth Stanfield went off at half time and was replaced Katie Astle with some positional shifts for those on the field from Glen Preston.
Early in the 2nd half, a dubious free kick for Handsworth gave Lauren Joyce something to think about. Her wall stood strong though and made sure nothing came from it.
After the 50-minute mark town began to motor with a great run down the left from Rebecca Beresford and this time Stuart was able to make her shot count and make it four.
Just four minutes later a carbon copy of a run by Astle rewarded Beresford her goal for all her great work in the game so far.
Only the crossbar could get in the way of Firth making it six. Although, in the 59th minute Tiripke made sure that wait was not long, poaching in the 6-yard box after another Astle cross to get her fourth.
It was an avalanche of chances now for Town with Astle coming close and then a Firth effort from the edge of the box not quite troubling the keeper.
Goals had become a guarantee at this point though. A great bit of interplay round the box, with a surgical Fletcher ball into the middle finding its way into the feet of Mallin who’s shot squirmed under the Handsworth keeper with 67 minutes gone for 7-0.
An injury to the Handsworth captain Danielle Pinder had them down to ten from the last quarter of the game.
However, a Town corner from Kate Mallin met Bethany Ibbotson making the scoreline 8-0.
The final goal of an action-packed day saw Astle involved again, assisting Molly Firth to guide in off of the post in 89th minute.
