Huddersfield Town Women kicked off their season in perfect fashion as they took all three points this afternoon as AFC Fylde visited the Stafflex arena.
Glen Preston naming debutants: Olivia Conway, Olivia Harness, Dolcie O’Connor and Freya Walton in the starting XI, with Feiruz Abdullahi, Scarlett McMahon, Aisha Nsangou also named on the bench, all involved for Town for the first time.
It would be a disaster start for Town though as Fylde broke the deadlock early in the first half, an early cross was well controlled by Lackey and she fired passed Olivia Conway in the Town goal.
The Terriers would not be behind for long as Kate Mallin found space down the right, laid the ball back to Britt Sanderson who swung an inviting ball into the box, Yasmin Mason nips in before the keeper, swivels and finds Freya Walton free inside the box for a debut goal for the ex-Leicester U21 captain.
End to end action ensued until the break with neither side able to break each other down but it would be Fylde who once again found themselves in front not long after the interval, Fylde able to get a shot away which Conway is able to turn away but only into the path of Lackey for her second of the game.
Town once again would not be behind for long as a liquid team move is finished off superbly by Britt Sanderson after a perfect set up by Yasmin Mason.
Moments later Town went in front for the first time in the contest and it’s a goal of the season contender already as Britt Sanderson picks the ball up on the half way line, drives forward before unleashing a ferocious shot over the fingertips of Craven in the Fylde goal, a goal that had nearly the whole ground on their feet.
The Coasters would throw everything at the Terriers in the closing stages but it was game, set and match in added time as another debutant in Feiruz Abdullahi would get herself on the score sheet with a fantastic solo goal, a floated ball forward is controlled by the ex-Salford City forward where she drove forward, stepped inside her defender before powerfully finish high to the Fylde custodians right to seal all three points for Glen Preston’s side.
The Terriers are back in action in FAWNL League Cup Determining Round action Sunday 27th August where we welcome Middlesborough FC Women to the Stafflex Arena with a 2pm kick off.
