The group joined at the Laund Hill Community Club in Huddersfield, as three in-house awards were accorded to various members of the side, including Manager’s player, Player’s player and the 2023/24 Town top scorer.
Celebrations occurred on the 6th of this month, with all awards and their righteous recipients confirmed and justified by First Team Coach Glen Preston.
Manager’s Player – Beth Ibbotson:
Centre-Half Beth Ibbotson was awarded the manager’s player honour as a recognition to her astute defensive displays across the recent campaign, to confirm the ending of her third year at the club having recently announced an extension to her tenure.
‘Ibbo’ has formed a somewhat formidable partnership across the backline with skipper Beth Stanfield, with the side managing five clean sheets across the final nine league games of the season.
Preston branded the defender as a model professional, attributing her leadership skills as part of her successful campaign, saying: “She always wears her heart on her sleeve and despite a tough season, she represented the badge with dignity and class.
“She’s a player that I’ve grown very fond of over the years, and is slowly turning into a real leader.”
Player’s Player – Charlotte Gill:
‘General Gill’ developed into a staple of the Terrier’s midfield unit as the season progressed, with the nature of her determination in reclaiming possession and duels no doubt what has fuelled her valiant nickname.
The tough-tackling box-to-box has highlighted her willingness to put a lot on the line for the side, as seen with the injury she sustained late on in the season away at Kellamergh Park in Fylde, which has undoubtedly solidified her place as a favourite amongst the squad, as indicated by her ‘Player’s player’ title.
This was underpinned by the boss who labelled Gill as a ‘fighter’, adding: “12 months ago she wasn’t featuring too much in the first team, but she persevered, pushed herself into the starting XI and fought even harder to stay there.
“I believe this award from the players is a reflection of their respect for that, and we hope that continues long into the future.”
Top Scorer – Yas Mason: Electric forward Yasmin Mason displayed her versatility in attack throughout the season, featuring from both from the left flank and the number nine role to create consistent through a combination of her speed, ability on the ball and deadly eye for goal.
This saw Yas tally a total of four league goals to award herself top scorer in the side, arriving in various important moments including her illustrious Hillsborough hat-trick to hand the Terrier’s consecutive Hallamshire County Cup Final victories, combining well with loyal Town servant Kate Mallin to produce a ruthless forward partnership across the year.
These big moments were touched on by Coach Preston, stating: “I think Yas came on leaps and bounds last season, she pushed herself to get to that next level and made herself a mainstay in the side.
“It doesn’t matter where she plays, Yas always gives 100% and that’s partly the reason she scored so many important goals last year, the hattrick she scored in the cup final will always be something I will remember and hopefully talk about for years to come.”
