West Yorkshire derby at The Stafflex
Huddersfield Town Women will welcome West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United to The Stafflex Arena this Sunday in a clash of 4th vs 5th.
It was the opening game of the season last time the two sides met, Town coming out 2-0 winners on the day.
The Hosts:
Glen Preston’s side come into the game off the back of a 1-0 defeat to title chasing Middlesborough.
The defeat came after a decent performance by the terriers, with most of the game being played in Middlesborough’s half.
Town haven’t been able to pick up any form in the league as of late, despite some good performances. The side are struggling to grind out results, conceding late on in their last two home league games against Middlesborough and Durham.
No injury news coming off the back of the Middlesborough game, with Caz Simone coming on off the bench late on after picking up a knock in the previous game.
The Visitors:
Sunday’s visitors currently sit three points above Town in 4th place. Leeds have been on a decent run in the league, going unbeaten in the last three.
They managed to rescue a point away at Durham last weekend, Sarah Danby scoring a equaliser in the dying minutes of the game.
One player to keep an eye on is Amy Woodruff, having netted 12 times already this season, she could be a threat to the Town defence.
Leeds still has a chance to move into the title race, only seven points behind Cheadle Town and Middlesborough with a game in hand. A win on Sunday would really solidify their claim of a late title push.
Final Conclusions:
It’s hard not to dwell on some of Town’s recent results; a brilliant performance away at Barnsley almost tainted by a tough loss in the Middlesborough game.
The players should have confidence coming into the game after comfortably being the better side against Middlesborough, just not having that killer instinct in front of goal.
With the form Leeds are in, it will be hard to keep them out and in their last game they have shown they have the resiliency to grab a late goal but it should be a great contest at the Stafflex.
