Defeat in the FAWNL Cup quarter final despite leading at half-time.
The first 20 minutes showed promise from both sides. 14 minutes into the game, Lucy Sowerby caught Faye Hazelton off her line with a lob, however her effort ended up on the wrong side of the post and out for a goal kick.
Not long after, Yasmin Mason is hacked down just outside the box and a free kick is awarded to Town, but Kate Mallin’s shot was caught by Becky Flaherty in the Halifax goal.
It took 23 minutes for the first goal of the game, which was calmly placed into the bottom left corner by Freya Walton, who got on the end of a Ria Montgomery cross at the back post.
The lead only lasted 6 minutes, as Lucy Sowerby headed home a corner delivered by Ellie White making the score 1-1.
Just before the break, Town retained the lead thanks to Yasmin Mason, who put the ball past Becky Flaherty and put Town 2-1 to the good.
The second half saw improvements from the home side, who were relentless in attack. 55 minutes in, Brittany Sanderson played a ball into Lucy Sowerby, however her shot drifted just wide of the post.
It only took 5 more minutes for Halifax to equalise through Ellie White. Brittany Sanderson took it round Faye Hazelton in net and squared it to Ellie White, who placed the ball into the empty net. 2-2.
It was a penalty that put the hosts ahead, as Faye Hazelton tripped Courtney Willis on the edge of the box. Former Terrier, Brittany Sanderson sends Hazelton the wrong way to give Halifax the lead for the first time in the game. 3-2.
The end of the game saw continuous attacks by Town, searching for an equaliser, however good defending and goalkeeping from Halifax prevented another goal, and the referee blew for full time.
