Disappointing defeat at home for the Terriers, 0-4 against Derby County
- Town reduced to 10 players early on.
- Newly promoted full time Newcastle compound more misery on Town.
- Defeat still leaves Town in bottom 2 in the league.
The game started disastrously for Huddersfield as they conceded a penalty in the 3rd minute. It appeared initially that Imogen Maguire had fouled the striker but, the decision was handball against Olivia Harness.
After some hesitation while the referee tried to decide who has committed the offence, Harness was shown a straight red card.
The penalty wasn’t well struck and Maguire managed to save and then the danger was cleared.
Despite their lack of numbers Town broke clear a few minutes later and it took a good save from the Newcastle keeper to deny a well struck Yasmin Mason shot.
Newcastle were dominating possession but Town held firm with their midfield and defence getting in a number of good blocks to frustrate Newcastle.
Mason was upended in the 31st minute just outside the Newcastle but Kate Mallin’s free kick went over the crossbar.
Two minutes later and Newcastle took the lead when they scored following a corner and half clearance with a good shot low into the bottom corner of Town’s net, 0-1.
Town continued to weather to storm and went in 0-1 down at the break.
It took Newcastle just six minutes into the second half to double their lead when a flicked header found the corner of the net.
With twenty minutes remaining Glen Preston started to ring the changes but that didn’t stop Newcastle scoring a third goal with 78 minutes gone.
Substitute Aisha Nsangou had a low shot turned round the post by the Newcastle keeper as the game entered injury time.
In the 92nd minute Newcastle got their fourth of the game when Maguire spilt a high ball only for it to be fired home.
A brave performance from Town but they were up against it as soon as they were reduced to 10 players.
Town are back in action next Sunday as they travel to West Bromwich Albion in the FAWNL Cup 2nd Round at the Valley Stadium with a 1:30pm kick off.
