Huddersfield Town Women hosted West Bromwich Albion in an intense bottom of the league clash at Stafflex Arena this afternoon to hold on to their place in the Women’s National League.
A very end to end game saw a good chance come for the home team in the 16th minute thanks to Cara Fields, who struck the ball inside the box, but the keeper did well to tip it over the bar.
Just a few minutes later the visitors take a chance from a corner and the set piece pays off, Faye Hazelton can’t get to it, putting West Brom in the lead.
A late challenge saw Charlotte Gill go into the book as both teams battled relentlessly from the start to take the three points.
The Terriers were ambitious to equalise before the half time whistle, but the game doesn’t go in their favour, the Baggies score in the 41st minute doubling their lead.
Just inside the second half Huddersfield were unlucky to not close the gap following a scramble in the box, but the ball was quickly cleared by the visitors.
A late goal came for the blue and whites in the 90th minute as Beth Ibbotson scored from the spot, but despite their best efforts it wasn’t enough to see the game out.
The Town fought right until the end whistle and there are many positives they need to take into their next game against Liverpool Feds at home on Sunday. Today’s loss still sees them in 11th position in the league, nine points behind 10th place Stourbridge FC with two games in hand.
